Pete Doherty
Pete Doherty, born January 18, 1945, is a retired American professional wrestler and television commentator, best known by his ring name "The Duke of Dorchester". His career began in 1973 with the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), where he primarily performed as enhancement talent, known for his eccentric style and ring name, which paid homage to his hometown of Dorchester, Massachusetts. Throughout his career, Doherty was recognized for his loud interaction with the audience and his tactics in the ring. While he never reached star status, he had notable feuds with wrestlers like King Kong Bundy and S. D. Jones, with his biggest victory coming in 1990 when he defeated Haku at the Boston Garden. In the 1980s, McMahon transitioned him to a commentator role in the WWF, where he became known as a heel announcer, primarily in Boston. Doherty retired from professional wrestling in 1997 and was inducted into the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010. He currently resides in Falmouth, Massachusetts, and in 2013, a play based on his life was premiered.
